No one can ever take away a person having a strong work ethic. There is something about the grind and working through late nights, early starts, and focusing on the problem at hand. However, there comes a moment where you may find that working harder doesn’t always mean better results. You could be working harder but in the wrong direction. The game changer is finding a cohesion between the two. A strong work ethic is critical but make sure you are working hard, effectively and efficiently.
There may come a time where you might have to switch your mindset from working harder to working smarter. The idea behind this is having a strategic mindset. Is there a better way of solving the problem at hand? If you find yourself frustrated with a challenge, try to take a pause and reevaluate your approach.
Questions to ask yourself to help you work smarter:
- Is there another strategy to solve the problem at hand?
- Is there someone who has excelled before that I can ask for help?
- Can I take a step back and use a different approach?
Sometimes it’s important to be flexible with yourself and try different methods in order to reach your goals. You may find that these slight adjustments actually require you work less while having better results. Next time you are faced with a challenge, ask yourself if there are other ways of looking at it that might be more effective. For this weeks #MakeItHappen, use a strategic approach to help you work smarter and not necessarily harder.
