What You Don’t Learn In School

Happy Monday!

Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” It’s true that no one can take your education away from you. A person can lose everything but no one can take away their knowledge. This concept is so central to our mission that we felt strongly that knowledge is not just about what you learn in the classroom but also life skills that often aren’t taught in school. For that reason, we are kicking off the summer with a free virtual workshop open to all students!

School can teach you a lot about science and English; however, we will be focusing on topics like financial literacy, health and wellness, branding yourself, and learning to have an entrepreneurial mindset. Each week will focus on a new topic so that we can dive deep and hopefully learn more than just the basics. When thinking about financial literacy, we will discuss how to create a budget, why savings are important, and how you can already start thinking about investments. Our week on health and wellness will focus on not just physical health, but also mental and emotional health and help you understand why they are all important and the need for balance. Week 3 dives into the topic of branding yourself. The same way that a company creates a brand, it is important to start thinking about how you want to brand yourself to the world. Now is the time to think about taking risks and learning new things. Maybe you are thinking about making that call for an internship opportunity, and you want to make sure that you send your message effectively so that others know who you are and what you stand for. The workshop ends on a topic that started it all, growing your entrepreneurial mindset. Week 4 focuses on critical thinking and creativity. We want to create a space to encourage each other’s passion project and, who know’s, maybe help create other great startup ideas.

If you are a student and would like to participate you can sign up here. Also, if you are a parent, a teacher, or just know a student who might enjoy taking part in the workshop, please share the love and forward this week’s #MakeItHappen. YTeach is all about peer learning, collaboration, and positivity. Our mission is to create a community of life-long learners. The workshop will be led by your peer’s and our very own Matias and Stefano. In addition, they will be holding rapid fire interviews with experts in the different topic areas. So if there are any specific questions you might want to ask, please send us an email and let us know. In this week’s #MakeItHappen, think about life skills that you would like to explore over the summer. If there is a topic you think we may have missed, let us know and email us at or share your story and tag us on social

Go make it happen,
