Show the slide show and ask what all living things have in common. Explain that all living things are made up of cells. Write the word cells on the screen.Ask what other types of living things there are (fish, reptiles, birds, lichens, mosses etc) and reinforce that all organisms, both plants and animals, are made of cells.

Play the slideshow and ask for other examples of materials which are not made up of cells, such as glass or salt.

Ask for a volunteer to come and complete the exersise by dragging the labels into the two groups on the interactive whiteboard. Briefly discuss the difference between the two groups (organic and inorganic materials).

Play the simulation and explain how every part of an organism is made up of cells but that they are very small in size.Explain that cells make up tissues and that tissues make up organs. Ask for examples of organs in animals and plants.
